Harold G, Bechtel, 73, or 500 South Park boulevard, formerly a town official and Republican leader in Easton, Conn., and a retired secretary and general manager of the American Fabrics company in Bridgeport, died Friday in his home.
Services will take place Monday in the Grace United Methodist church, Venice.
Mr. Bechtel was a lifelong resident of the Bridgeport area and was associated with the American Fabrics company 47 years. He retired in 1969.
He was the organizer of the Easton police department and for 27 years was chairman of the Easton Board of Police Commissioners.
He was chairman of the Republican Town committee nine years and was a former director of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, a director of the American Lace Manufacturers association and a former member of the Easton Exchange club.
His masonic affiliations include Asblar lodge of Bridgeport, the Aspetuck Lodge of Easton the Lafayette consistory of Bridgeport, Pyramid Temple and the Hyram chapter, Royal Arch Mason of Sandy Hook.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marion Holz Bechtel, of Venice; a son, Elliott H. Bechtel of Little Rock, Ark.; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Drouet of Fairfield; and five grandchildren.
