Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Imelda M. Alby, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Medical Center, with her family at her side, on November 3, 2013. She was born July 14, 1926, to Alvin and Mary (nee Kerkman) Robers on the Kerkman farm up on the hill in New Munster. She spent her childhood living across the street from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church – spending many a day watching the children during recess on the playground. The priest and her parents decided that she should start 1st grade at the tender age of four because she spent so much time there. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School at the age of 16. She married the loved of her life, Harold J. Alby, on November 29, 1952 and shared 49 wonderful years together. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their two children, Terry and Toni. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2002. She retired in 1988 from Lavelle Industries after 20 years to take on her most rewarding life work – watching over her grandchildren, Josh and Abbey, while her daughter, Toni, worked. During those years she instilled in them the importance of a devoted family through her unconditional love, guidance and support. She left a lasting impression on every person she met and she will be dearly missed by many. She is survived by her son, Terry (Sue) Alby and daughter, Toni Myhre. Proud grandmother of Joshua (Chelsea) Rupert, Carissa Alby, Abbey (Michael) Myhre and Michael Alby. Great grandchildren, Xavier, Jayden and another on the way. Brother, Ignatious (Mitzi) Robers. Special cousin, Glen (Louise) Thompson. Dear friend, Lucy Greunke. Further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Services for Imelda will be Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington, with Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Friends may call at the Good Sheppard Chapel, at St. Mary’s, on Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
