Francis Herman Laska was born to Vincent and Anna Bryant Laska on May 5, 1922 in Anoka, Minnesota. He moved with his family to Finlayson as a child. Francis grew up and has lived his entire life at Finlayson and the Pine Lake area.
He served in the army during World War II and on March 17, 1961 he was united in marriage to Mildred Johnson (Allers) Laska. Francis was an avid outdoors person and sportsman. Hunting, trapping and fishing were the love of his life. He did a lot of guiding for hunters from all over the country and he always knew where to find game or fish. Among his many clients were Walter Mondale and Perry Hearst of the Hearst Newspaper empire. Francis was always able to make a living from guiding and wholesaling live bait for fishing.
For the past five years he had been in failing health and he passed from this life on December 19, 1999 at the Cambridge Medical Center. He had attained the age of 77 years, seven months and 14 days.
He will be lovingly remembers by his daughter, Sharilyn Laska of Finlayson and her mother, Mildred Laska of Mora; two step-sons, Dean (Nancy) Johnson of Battle Ground, Washington and Steve (Deb) Johnson of Sandstone; one step-daughter, Denella Hanson of Finlayson; two brothers, Stanley Laska of Hayward, Wisconsin and Raymond (Bertha) Laska of Finlayson; one sister, Clara Alm of Finlayson; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his granddaughter, Lori Laska. Blessed be his memory.
At his own request, there was no funeral service held for Francis. Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 22, 1999 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hansen's North Pine Funeral Home in Sandstone, Minnesota.
