William Luke, 78, member of the Kenosha county board 28 years, former assessor and active in other town of Wheatland affairs, died at his Wheatland farm home today after being ill a week with pneumonia.
Mr. Luke was born May 25, 1859, in the town of Burlington, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Luke. He was married Jan. 30, 1883, to Miss Anna Richter, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Linneman and Mrs. J. P. Verhalen, and a son, Werner Luke, of Milwaukee; son, Frank, of Wheatland, and daughter, Miss Catherine
Luke, at home; besides a brother, Aloys, of Granton, Wis.; a sister, Mrs. Lena King, of Burlington; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides being chairman of the town of Wheatland for 28 years, Mr. Luke served as assessor of the township for several years, was president of the West Kenosha County Fair association, vice president of the Kenosha County Fair association, and a director of the Burlington, Wheatland, Randall Mutual Fire Insurance company. He was a member of St. Adolphus Catholic church at New Munster. He had operated a farm for three years south of Burlington, and the remainder of the time in Wheatland.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a. m. in St. Adolphus church, Rev. J. J. Pierron officiating.
