Bertha "Butz" Laska went home to Jesus on July 22, 2019 at the age of 97, surrounded by her children.
Bertha was born to Antonia and Henry Sprandel on July 4, 1922. She grew up in the Big Pine Lake area and enjoyed swimming, ice skating and attending dances.
She married Raymond "Bud" Laska on September 10, 1942. They settled west of Finlayson and were married for 67 years. Bertha became a homemaker and was known for her outstanding hospitality. No one ever left hungry from her home, and she could make "nothing much" into a gourmet meal. They were blessed with two daughters, Judy Richardson and June Will.
Throughout her life, Bertha had a servant’s heart. She loved to cook, garden and knit. She served at her church on the Ladies Aide, as a Sunday school teacher, and as the Sunday school superintendent. She held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Bertha joins her husband, Bud, parents, Antonia and Henry, her brother, Bill, and sisters, Sophie, Irene and Esther in Heaven. She is survived by daughters, Judy Richard and June (Dave) Will, grandchildren, Kirk (Shelley) Richardson, George Richardson, Ray (Shelly) Richardson, Mark Richardson, Keith (Jill) Laska, Toni Jensen, Stephanie (John) Staphe, and many great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for Bertha at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Finlayson on July 25, 2019 with Pastor Philip Hoppe officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
