While sitting in his car in front of how home at 207 N. Scoff St., Wednesday morning, John Wesley Barton, 65, was stricken with a heart attack, and was dead when Dr. Welsh arrived. Mr. Barton had been in good health previously, and his death was a sudden shock to his family. He had been downtown in his car, and upon returning home at about 9:30 he apparently sat in his car for some time. Members of his household, not seeing him in the car presumed that he was somewhere around the property. At about 10 o'clock concern was felt over his absence, and the car door was opened. Mr. Barton was slumped across the front seat, and an ambulance and Dr. Welsh were called. He pronounced Mr. Barton dead from an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Barton was born in Gardner, Ill., Sept. 11, 1874. For several years the family has lived in Wheaton, where Mr. Barton had become one of the city's honored and respected citizens.
Left to mourn his loss are his loyal wife, Maude; one daughter, Mrs. Floyd Pemberton; two sons, Frank and LeRoy of Wheaton; one sister, Mrs. C.D. Holmes of Chicago, and a grandson, Billy Pemberton.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Kampp chapel, Rev. Evan D. Welsh officiating. Burial will be at the Wheaton cemetery.
