Accident Occurred 3 Miles Southwest of Fonda

John Portman of Auburn was killed in an automobile accident which occurred about three miles southwest of Fonda late Friday morning. It is reported that the car, driven by Mr. Portman, collided with another car, the impact throwing both Mr. and Mrs. Portman out of their auto. Their car was struck near the front seat. Mrs. Portman was quite badly cut and bruised.
Mr. and Mrs. Portman were on their way from Gilmore City, where they had taken the latter's sister, Sister M. Thaddea.
Mr. Portman, who was about seventy-five years old, was born in Germany. Coming to the United States as a young man, he located at Milwaukee, Wis. He later came to Iowa, and had lived in the Auburn vicinity for about fifty years. He was a retired farmer.
About thirty-five years ago he was married to Miss Maggie Ellerbrock of Auburn. Surviving with his wife are two children, Mrs. W. F. Collins (Eileen) of Washington. D. C., and Frank Portman of Carthage, Mo., and two grandchildren, Dean and Marilyn Collins.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, awaiting word from the daughter, Mrs. Collins. It may be impossible for her to attend the rites as her husband is ill in a hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Portman have arrived in Auburn.
