Kenneth Dwayne Summy, 78, of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Gulfport.
He was born in Waterloo and had been a resident of Gulfport for about 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gulfport where he served as an usher. He was retired from retail sales.
Survived by: his wife of 56 years, Betty Thompson Summy of Gulfport; a son, Bruce (Susan Jackson) of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Becky (Roy C. Jr.) Belanger of San Jose, Calif., Renee (Gary R.) Moore of Biloxi, Miss., and Teresa (Fred L. Jr.) Fish of Houston; nine grandchildren, Roy C. III (Heather Higgins) Belanger and Damon T. Belanger, both of San Jose, Steve (Annah Mary Dowdle) Summy of Memphis, Tenn., Erica Summy of Hattiesburg, Miss., Erin Summy of Flowood, Miss., Dr. Russell D. (Maria Hanna) Moore of Louisville, KY, Jeff Moore of New Orleans, Greg (Melissa Waninger) Moore of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Clinton T. Fish of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Timothy Moore of Louisville; two brothers, Al of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Verle of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; and a sister, Marvilyn (the Rev. Leon) Williams of Silva, Mo.; and his mother-in-law, Nan Thompson of Gulfport.
Preceded in death by: his parents, Neva Maust Summy and Alvin M. Summy; a brother, Glen; and a sister, Aileen Summy.
Memorial services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Gulfport. Dr. Chuck Register and the grandson of Mr. Summy, Dr. Russell D. Moore, professor of Christian Theology at the Southern Baptist Theologian Seminary in Louisville, are officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Gulfport, is in charge of arrangements.
The family prefers memorials to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 70, Gulfport, Miss., 39502, but flowers will be accepted.
