Herbert Frank Scholbrock, son of Herman and Regina (Thuente) Scholbrock, was born April 1, 1923, on a farm east of Calmar. When Herb was 8 years old, his family moved to the Scholbrock homestead north of Festina.
He attended school at St. Mary's School in Festina until the eighth grade, when the family moved to a farm near Wadena. The Scholbrocks later moved to a farm between Fayette and Maynard.
On June 14, 1948, Herb was united in marriage with Donna Richmond at Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner. Seven children were born to this union.
Herb worked for his father for six months before going to work on the Albert Boess farm near Hawkeye. For 35 years, he worked and managed this farm of crops and livestock. He semi-retired in 1984 and moved to Adams, Minn., where he continued to raise and sell feeder pigs until moving back to Hawkeye.
Due to health reasons, Herb and Donna left their home to live at Eagle Ridge near Clermont. They became residents of the West Union Good Samaritan Center in March 2005.
Through the years Herb was active in Farm Bureau and the Pork Producers. He was a pioneer of IPLA Cattle Marketing Association in northeast Iowa.
Herb was a member of Holy Name Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Donald in April 1997 and Randy in May 2005.
Herb is survived by his wife, Donna; his children Barbara (Ronald) Voshell of Oelwein, Dennis (Debra) Scholbrock of Arvada, Colo., Kenneth (Chris) Scholbrock of Hawkeye, Steve (Inez) Scholbrock of London, England, and Charles (Joan) Scholbrock of Waucoma; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
