Rita R. Manderfield, 94, of West Union and formerly of Fayette, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette with Rev. Donald Komboh celebrating the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 2nd, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding the Mass on Wednesday at the church. There will be a Rosary at 4:45 PM and Scripture Service at 7:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Rita’s name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Rita Rose, daughter of Herman and Regina (Thuente) Scholbrock was born October 12, 1924, in Calmar. Rita’s mother died when she was five years old. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then helped to raise her siblings. On May 1, 1946 Rita was united in marriage with Reginald “Sam” Manderfield at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wadena. Rita made her wedding dress from parachute material that Sam brought home from World War II. To this union six children were born, Duane, Robert, Mary, Linda, Joyce, and Carol. In addition to being a homemaker, Rita cleaned homes and businesses in the Fayette area. She was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where she was active in the Women’s Guild. Rita enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, and baking. She had a strong faith and cherished the time she spent with her family. Rita was a very loving mother, who had a positive outlook on life, and her generosity was felt by not only her family, but many people in the Fayette area.
Rita is survived by five children, Robert of Fayette, Mary (Jim) Gallagher of Oelwein, Linda Meade of Manchester, Joyce (Rich) Lennon of Fort Dodge, and Carol Junge of Clermont; seven grandchildren, Terry Manderfield, Tammy (Don) Jones, Tresa (Joe) Albrecht, Krista (Jason) Gallagher Colt, Robert Meade, Richard (Tonya) Lennon, and Matt (Heidi) Junge; nine great-grandchildren, David, Cody, Peyton, RJ, Maggie, Daisy, Ella, Abby, and Aaron; and one sister-in-law, Mary Scholbrock of Rochester, Minnesota.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam who died in 2003; son, Duane who died in 2007; 2 infant grandchildren; one infant great-grandchild; son-in-law, Tom Junge in 2008; sister, Irene; and two brothers, Walter and Herbert.
