A funeral Mass for Reginald "Sam" Manderfield, 82, of Fayette was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette. The celebrant was Rev. Richard Kuhn.
Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Fayette. Military rites were conducted by Fayette American Legion Post 339. Casket bearers were Terry Manderfield, Don Jones, Richard Lennon III, Bob Meade, Matt Junge, and DeVere Manderfield.
Arrangements were handled by Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Fayette.
Sam's death occurred Tuesday, Oct 28, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo, following a sudden illness.
Reginald "Sam" Manderfield, the son of William and Margaret (Balk) Manderfield, was born July 23, 1921, near St. Lucas in Fayette County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas.
Sam served U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of an antiaircraft battery, serving in England, France and Germany.
On May 1, 1946, Sam was united in marriage with Rose Scholbrock at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wadena. Sam farmed in the Fayette area and worked for Stepp's Melons in Fayette for 21 years, retiring in 1983.
Sam a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette. He was also a member of Fayette American Legion Post 339.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two grandchildren; four brothers, William, Leander, Julius and Sylverius Manderfield; and two sisters, Marie Mihm and Angeline Manderfield.
Surviving are his wife, Rita, of Fayette; six children, Duane Manderfield of Dike, Bob Manderfield of Fayette, Mary (Jim) Gallagher of Oelwein, Linda (Gary) Meade of Edgewood, Joyce (Rich) Lennon of Fort Dodge, and Carol (Tom) Junge of Clermont; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like memorials to be made to the American Heart Association, the American
Cancer Society or to thee Diabetes Association.
