Duane H. Manderfield. 60, of Dike passed away on October 5, 2007, at his home of complications of diabetes. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Dike United Methodist Church on October 9. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A Memorial fund has been established.
Duane was born April 28, 1947, in Oelwein the son of Reginald "Sam" and Rita (Scholbrock) Manderfield. Duane was graduated from Fayette High School in 1965. He then enlisted into the United States Navy where he served on the USS Oriskany in the Phillipines. He attended Yeoman, Communication and Leadership school. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He then attended Northeast Iowa Community College attaining his associate degree in science — accounting specialist, in May 1972. Duane moved to rural Dike in 1973 and moved into Dike in 1978. Duane worked at Heavy Equipment Manufacturing in Grundy Center. He was a member of the Dike American Legion Post No. 471 where he served as the Post adjutant since 1986. He has also been very involved in the Boy Scouts of America since 1983. He was named "Cub Scout Leader of 1987" by 3rd District American Legion, State of Iowa. He was presently serving on adult leader training committee for the council. He was a member of the 40 and 8 club, and a member of the Grundy County Veteran's Association. Duane was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his two daughters, Tammy and husband Don Jones Of Traer and Tresa and husband Joe Albrecht Of Ackley; a son, Terry Manderfield of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, his mother, Rita Manderfield of Fayette; four sisters, Mary and husband Jim Gallagher of Oelwein, Linda Meade of Manchester, Joyce and husband Rich Lennon of Fort Dodge, and Carol and husband Tom Junge of Clermont; and a brother, Bob Manderfield of Fayette.
He was preceded in death by his father.
