Inez Rooney Daniels, 89, of Ossian, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the Ossian Senior Hospice, in Ossian. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with Monsignor Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Inurnment followed in the Centennial Cemetery in rural Ossian. Visitation was two hours before Mass time. Condolences may be left with www.graufuneralhomes.com. Schmitz — Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian was in charge of arrangements.
Inez was born Jan. 25, 1922, in rural Ossian, to Patrick C. and Nellie (Daniels) Rooney. She attended Winneshiek County Schools and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1941. Inez was united in marriage to Donald C. Daniels Nov. 2, 1946, in Riverside, Calif. One son was born to this union. After their marriage they made their home in California until moving to Decorah in 1994. In Dec. 2006 Inez entered Wellington Place, in Decorah, and moved to Ossian Senior Hospice in Aug. 2011.
Inez was employed as a bank teller and did alterations as a seamstress for department stores and individual customers. She was senior regent of Santa Rosa Moose Lodge 458 of Santa Rosa, Calif. She enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She loved hearing and telling jokes.
Survivors include her son, Gary Daniels, Normal, Ill.; sister, Joan Schissel, Decorah; stepson, D. Lloyd (Carol) Daniels, Casa Grande, Ariz.; step-daughter, Mary Letizia, Lincoln, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Walt) Wiltgen, Harmony, Minn. and Ann Rooney, Evanston, Ill.; two brothers-in-law, Robert Daniels, Waterloo; Robert Freese and Arlington Heights, Ill.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Nellie Rooney; husband, Don Daniels, in 1996; two sisters, Bette Lach and Irene Freese; and brother, Pat T. Rooney.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Ossian Senior Hospice and Wellington Place.
