Reynold C. Baumler, 86, of West Union died of age-related causes on Saturday night, March 22, 2008, at the West Union Samaritan Center.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) by the Rev. Dale Rausch at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union.
Visitation was set for Tuesday, March 25, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union. A Scripture service was scheduled for 7 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, rural West Union. Casket bearers will be Andy Frey, Ross Hovden, Conrad Baumler, Quentin Stepp, Kyle Ament and Tom Thompson.
Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, is in charge of arrangements.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in rural St. Lucas, Reynold Clem Baumler was the son of Carl and Mathilda (Scholbrock) Baumler. He was the oldest of 10 children born to the couple.
Reynold attended St. Luke's School in St Lucas.
He worked with his father and brothers as a carpenter, along with running the family saw mill.
Reynold served in World War II with the 183rd Ordnance and saw active duty in the Philippines.
After the war, Reynold met Helen Margaret Wagner. They were married in Phoenix, Ariz., on Feb. 15, 1947, and became the parents of four children.
Reynold owned and operated Baumler Building Service in West Union. Over the years he designed and built many homes and barns in and around Fayette County. Reynold also constructed additions to many local businesses in West Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Donald (in infancy), Melvin, Cyril and Neil.
Reynold is survived by his wife, Helen Baumler, of West Union; a son, James (Marsha) Baumler of West Union; three daughters, Mary Jane (Jim) Tope and Sally Baumler, both of West Union, and Carol (Bruce) Hovden of Charles City; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include three sisters, Louann Throndson of Lawler, Colleen (Gerald) Guenther and Norma (Ed) Wurzer, both of West Union; two brothers, Gerald (Lois) Baumler of Waucoma and Irenus Baumler of Waukon; many nieces and nephews.
