Irenus J. Baumler, 75, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3:00 pm scripture service.
Irenus Joseph Baumler was born February 21, 1936 in rural St. Lucas, IA, the son of Carl and Matilda (Scholbrock) Baumler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Catholic Church and attended St. Luke's Catholic School both in St. Lucas. Irenus worked on the family farm and helped his father and brother Gerald operate the family saw mill. He also worked construction building pole buildings and grain bins for many years in Northeast Iowa. On August 18, 1959 he married Marlene Ann Ehler at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. Together they farmed near St. Lucas until 1976 when they moved to rural Waukon and continued farming in Ludlow Township. They moved into Waukon in 2000, Irenus continued his love of farming by making daily trips to the farm for several years.
Irenus was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, working in his garden, working puzzles, playing cards, taking walks, spending time in the outdoors and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Baumler of Waukon, Sharon Baumler of North Liberty, IA and Allan (special friend Jennifer Gehrum) Baumler of Dyersville, IA; 4 grandchildren, Danielle, Terrell, Cody and Emanuel; 1 brother, Gerald (Lois) Baumler of Waucoma, IA; 3 sisters, Lou Ann Throndson of Lawler, IA, Colleen (Gerald) Guenther and Norma (Edward) Wurzer both of West Union, IA; and a sister-in-law, Rita Baumler of West Union, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marlene who died in 2002; an infant daughter; 4 brothers, Reynold, Melvin, Cyril and Neil Baumler; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Felix and Bertha Ehler; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren. Casketbearers are Conrad, David, Jim, Steve, Donald Baumler and Rick Throndson.
