Jean Ann Baumler, 55, of Lihue, Hawaii, formerly of West Union, died July 18, 2006, of a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 11, at Holy Catholic Church in West Union.
Jean Ann Baumler was born April 22, 1951, to Melvin and Rita (Lansing) Baumler.
She attended Holy Name Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated in 1969 from North High School, where she was a member of National Honor Society.
Jean graduated from Viterbo College in LaCrosse, Wis., with a nursing degree in 1973.
She entered the ROTC during college and served in the U.S. Army until 1975; she then served in the Reserves for 12 years.
In 1973, Jean moved to California. She earned her master's degree from San Jose State University. She worked at the Letterman VA Hospital at the Presidio in San Francisco for four years, and then worked at the Palo Alto VA Hospital.
In 1983, Jean moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she worked at several hospitals and was the administrator for a Good Samaritan Center. The past 10 years she had lived in Lihue, on the island of Kauai, where she worked as a private nurse until her health began to fail.
Jean was preceded in death by her father, Melvin.
She is survived by her mother, Rita, of West Union; sisters Arlene (the late Steve) Smith of LaCrosse, Wis., Ruth McKinnon of Clyde, Calif., Diane (Mikael) Hakansson of Palo Alto, Calif.; brothers Don (Donna) Baumler, Mark (Karleen) Baumler and Kevin (Angela) Baumler, all of West Union.
