Marvin J. Scholbrock, 75, of New Hampton, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at his home New Hampton from complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 am Monday, March 21 at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. Ann Bennett was the organist and accompanied the cantor, Mike Carlin, as well as the Holy Family Resurrection Choir. Lector for the service was Heather Mai, Marv's grandchildren presented the offertory gifts and Marv's wife and children along With goddaughter Brenda Panoch placed the pall.
Burial with military honors was in the St. Mary's Cemetery with Jim Snyder, Pete Willadsen, Vern Laures, Dale Wagoner, Jim Grove, and Norman Heit serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Marvin's grandchildren. Military graveside honors were accorded by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts.
Friends called from 2 to 7 pm Sunday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton where there was a 4 pm rosary and 6 pm scripture service. Visitation was also from 8 to 10 am Monday at the funeral home.

Marvin Joseph Scholbrock was born December 22, 1929 in Fort Atkinson to Joseph Herman and Frances (Baumler) Scholbrock. He was the eldest of five brothers and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1948. Marvin served for the United States Army in 1951 in the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge He was a member of the 9th Regiment of the 2nd Division while stationed in Korea. On August 17, 1954 he wed Lorraine (Panoch) at the Assumption Church in Cresco, Iowa. They later had two children, Marilee Ione and Joseph Gregory. Marv worked as a mechanic for Chevy agencies in the local area and went on to run his own business, Marv's Auto Clinic from 1973 to 1979. As a mechanic, he received several professional outstanding awards as an accomplished mechanic which was his passion along with landscaping, farming, woodworking, and motorcycling He had an excitement for collecting toy tractors, antique guns, caps, and tinkering with anything mechanical He found great pleasure in tearing things apart and putting them back together again. In 1979 he accepted a position as Street Superintendent for the City of New Hampton and retiring in 1992 due to health problems. Marv loved his family and the outdoors and was very active before encountering this disabling disease.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Lorraine, two children Marliee (Jr.) Mai and Joseph (Judy) Scholbrock both of New Hampton; seven grandchildren; three brothers Reuben (Lana) Scholbrock, Cedar Rapids; Syl Scholbrock, Marion and Vern Scholbrock, Palo.
Preceding him in death were his parents Joseph and Frances and one brother Daniel Martin Scholbrock.
