Funeral services for Edward R. Martinek of Cresco, IA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Notre Dame Parish in Cresco. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4 with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, and an hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Conway Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.

Edward, 70, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at his home near Cresco.

Edward Robert Martinek was born July 23, 1938, near Cresco, IA, the son of Louis and Bessie (Pecinovsky) Martinek. As a boy, Edward attended the country schools through eighth grade and went onto graduate from Cresco High School.

on October 29, 1958, he married Shirley Ann Reicks at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. Edward farmed all his life and raised cattle until he "retired" eight years ago. He enjoyed dancing the polka and waltzing with Shirley and was an avid listener to the Saturday morning polka radio show. He loved going to family gatherings, fish fries, church dinners, and other community fundraisers. He also spent endless hours at sale barns, auctions, and the barber shop just visiting with his friends and neighbors. One of his real highlights in his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren showing them how to farm and giving them tractor rides. Ed was a member of Notre Dame Parish.

Edward is survived by his children: Robert (Lori) Martinek of Cresco, Marvin (Michelle) Martinek of Cresco, Carol (Dan) Hrubes of Ankeny, Michael (Ramona) Martinek of Cresco, Betty (Todd) Nash of Belmond, Ronald (Beth) Martinek of Rockwell, Susan Martinek of Chicago, IL and Curtis (Kirsten) Martinek of Ames; 15 grandchildren: Dalton and Allison Martinek; Taylor and Tracy Martinek; Brad Hrubes; Travis, Justin, and Nathan Martinek; Derek and Jeremy Nash; Zachary, Colin, Emma, and Max Martinek; and Jordan Martinek; one sister: Mildred Fossen of Lawler, a sister-in-law: Joann (Arthur) Martinek of Cresco; and nieces and nephews: Doris, Rose, Wyman, David, and Janet.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents; two brothers: Clarence and Arthur Martinek; a brother-in-law: Harold Fossen; and a sister-in-law: Gertrude Martinek.
