Allan Thomas Lofthus, 79 of Dodge Center, Minnesota, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died Monday evening, March 13, 2006 at the Red Wing Health Care Center in Red Wing.
Allan was born Dec. 12, 1926, on Grampa Hillson's farm east of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota the son of Melvin "Norman" and Irene (Hillson) Lofthus. He attended country school near his home east of Blooming Prairie.
On Oct. 3, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elaine Trihus at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. The couple farmed until 1967, when they moved to Blooming Prairie. Elaine died on April 9, 1986.
Allan continued to live in Blooming Prairie and working at the Owatonna Canning Company, retiring in 1989.
On July 22, 1989, he married Luverne Wieseler in Rochester. They moved to Dodge Center in 1990.
In Allan's younger years, he played in the Steele County Playboys band. They played at many dances throughout Steele County and the surrounding area. He played the organ, accordion, guitar and harmonica by ear. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Blooming Prairie.
Survivors include, his wife, Luverne Lofthus of Dodge Center; eight children, Lois (Dennis) Gordon of London, Carol (Greg) Fursa of Rochester, Julie (Tom) Morgan of Blooming Prairie, Gary (Susan) Lofthus of River Falls, Wisconsin, Colleen (Jeff) Prentiss of Minnetonka, Mary (Tim) Wacek of Blooming Prairie, Eric (Lori) Lofthus of Dodge Center and Nancy (Dean) Plunkett of Faribault; fifteen grandchildren; two step-children, Joe (Sue) Wieseler and Allen Wieseler all of Rochester; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte (LaVerne J.) Johnson of St. Paul and Sandra (Alan) Pooley of Apple Valley and many other relatives and friends.
His parents; first wife, Elaine (Trihus) Lofthus and two stepsons, Mark and Dean Wieseler preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2006, at First Lutheran Church, Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Richard Hegal and the Rev. Heidi Heimgartner, officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
