The funeral was held on Tuesday with many friends and relatives attending, of John Mears, long a Richmond, Ont., farmer, and for the past nine years caretaker of the farm at Billings' Bridge owned by the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, of St. Patrick's Home, Ottawa. Mr. Mears died at his home on Sunday, at the age of 62.
The funeral was held from the parlors of McEvoy Brothers, 471 MacLaren street, to St. Thomas Aquinas' Church, Billings' Bridge, where requiem high mass was chanted by Rev. A. Belanger. Interment was made at Richmond, Father Belanger accompanying the body to the graveside.
Mr. Mears is survived by his widow, the former Bridget Smith; two sons, Thomas and Lawrence Mears, at home; three brothers, Napoleon and Alonzo Mears, of Stanley's Corners, and Joseph, of Ottawa; and four sisters, Miss Nellie Mears, Stanley's Corners; Mrs. Joseph Kelly, Almonte; Mrs. Peter Smith, Richmond, and a member of a religious community living at Fort William.
Mr. Mears was born at Stanley's Corners, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Mears. He farmed at Richmond until coming to at Billings' Bridge, and was well-known in the community.
