The death occurred suddenly on Tuesday of Mrs. Peter Smith at her home here. Stricken when she was preparing for church. Mrs. Smith was found by her son, Joseph, when he returned from work at noon. She was 62 years of age.
Born on the 7th line of Goulburn, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Mears, she received her education there. In 1912 she married Peter Smith, who predeceased her about a year ago.
Of a kind and genial personality, Mrs. Smith had a host of friends through the district. She was actively connected with the League of the Sacred Heart, the Altar Society and the C.W.L. of St. Philip's Catholic church.
Surviving are one son, Joseph and thre daughters, Miss Mary, Miss Reta and Miss Helen Smith, all at home; three sisters, Miss Nellie Mears of Stittsville, Sister Victorine of Port Arthur, and Mrs. Joseph Kelly of Almonte; three brothers, Joseph Mears of Ottawa, and Napoleon and Alonzo Mears of Stittsville.
The funeral will be held from her late home on Thursday morning to St. Philip's Catholic church for requiem high mass at nine o'clock. Mass will be chanted by Rev. Father J. E. Brennan, parish priest. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
