Peacefully, on May 14, 2007 John McCartin passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 91. John Emmett will be lovingly remembered by Rita, his devoted wife of 67 years, his children, Elizabeth (Richard), Marilyn (Jim) and Allan (Brenda); his grandchildren, Sarah (Brent), John (Anita), Garth and Katie (Eric); and great-grandchildren, Patrick, Liam, Maya and Callum. John will be missed by his three sisters, Kathleen (Ian), Maureen (Bob), Patricia (John), sister-in-law Eva (Leonard); and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Ottawa on August 28, 1915, he was the son of Mary Meagher and John McCartin. In 1926, John and his family moved to Arvida, where he enjoyed a wonderful life growing up with his three sisters, brother Leonard and developing the lifelong sports of golf, skiing, and playing cards. John retired from the RCAF in 1970 after 33 years of dedicated service, an experience that took him across Canada and around the world. Following retirement John worked briefly at the University of Winnipeg in the Athletic Department before retiring again, this time to spend time travelling with Rita to Europe, Hawaii and the southern United States. John loved to spend time with his family at home, and at his cottage at Victoria Beach. There he perfected his game of golf, his game of bridge and challenging all those who came to visit to have just one more game of cards . John never forgot his family roots and loved visiting his family in the east, with whom he always maintained a close connection John liked being with people; he was a happy man, a man who loved to sing. He loved to read, to listen to good music. Many good times were shared with family and friends listening to music and singing songs. We will miss you Emmett Special thanks to the staff on 5 North and 5 South at the Victoria Hospital for their encouragement and care of our father, and to the staff on 3W Riverview Health Centre. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, located at Stafford and Corydon. This world is not conclusion, A sequel lies beyond.
