Lillian Richter, age 95, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Tivoli in Portage.
Lil was born on April 18, 1920, in Antigo, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Emma (Riemer) Diemel. She married Barney “Shorty” Richter on September 3, 1940. Lil enjoyed family and friends with always a joke to share. She worked as a cheesemaker foreman at AMPI for over 20 years, and also at Clark’s Restaurant in Briggsville, spreading her joy. She was commonly known as the “Mayor of Briggsville” or “Tiger Lil of Briggsville.”
She is survived by her children, Ginger Hurto of Princeton and Larry Richter (Krystal Sampson) of Wausau; her brother, Earl Diemel of Greybull, Wyoming; her sisters, Margie Mach of Appleton, and Clara Belle Kalkofen of Summit Lake; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1991, and her daughter, Barbara Scott.
Funeral services will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Susan Oeffler officiating. Burial will take place after the service at Briggsville Protestant Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lil’s family.
