Betty L. Reilly, age 88, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her memorial service will be on Monday, August 12 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Huron. Visitation with her family present will be from 4-6 PM on Sunday, August 11, with a scripture service at 5:30 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Betty Lorraine was born on August 9, 1930 in Wessington to Walter and Dorothy (Stewart) Ranft. Betty was raised by Dorothy and William Sass. As a small child, she moved to Huron and attended school, graduating from Huron in 1948.
Betty attended Watertown Beauty Academy. After graduating in 1949, she worked at Frances Beauty Shop. Betty held her beautician license for over 60 years in South Dakota. She owned and operated Patrice Beauty Salon for many years. After retirement, she worked at several Huron salons because she loved the work and the people.
Betty married Earl Reilly on April 12, 1950 at St. Martin’s Church in Huron. They were members of St. Martin’s and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. As a young widow, Betty raised her two children on her own.
Betty enjoyed going to lunch at Coborn’s, crocheting and reading. Summer vacations and Christmas were always special to Betty. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Earl Reilly who passed in 1961; her parents; one brother, Doyle Sass; 4 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; and special friend, Wyatt Merritt.
She is survived by her children; Mike (Pam) Reilly of Huron and Patricia Reilly of Eden Prairie, MN; four grandchildren, Jill (Chad) Harpenau of LeMars, IA, Joshua Reilly of Chicago, IL, Eric (Corinne) Peterson of New Richmond, WI, and Chris Peterson of Eden Prairie, MN; great-grandchildren, Lillian, William and Lane Harpenau and Svea Peterson; her brother, Robert “Bob” Ranft of Aberdeen; sisters-in-law, Sister M. Lonan Reilly of Rochester, MN and Carolyn Kopejtka of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
