Shirley A. (Shirts) Norquist, 51, formerly of Huron, died Oct. 22 at Fort Meade Medical Center.
The funeral was Monday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating. Burial was in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, with military honors.
Mr. Norquist was born June 28, 1929, to Elmer and Helga Norquist in Huron. He grew up in Huron and served in the U.S. Army and Navy. He was married to Rose Reilly in Huron on May 26, 1952. After he was discharged from the Army they lived in Huron from 1954 until 1961 when they moved to Rapid City where he worked 25 years at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Civil Service.
Survivors include his wife of Rapid City; four sons, Stephan of the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, Richard, Roger and Larry, all of Rapid City; five daughters, Mrs. Tom (Joan) Hoiland of Longmont, Colo., Mrs. Rick (Diane) Abbott of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. James (Barbara) Taylor of Oklahoma City, Okla., Debra Jean and Sharon Kay Norquist, both of Rapid City; six grandchildren; two brothers, Norman of Simi Valley, Calif., and Vernon of Huron; and one sister, Mrs. Jack (Beverly) Rogers of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
