Mrs. James Bird, 83, Of Milwaukee, who, prior to her marriage had taught elementary school in Sheboygan for 40 years, died Thursday at Family Hospital in Milwaukee.
She was born Dec. 17, 1900, in Galesville, daughter of John L. and Susie Williams Spors.
She married James Bird in June, 1966, while she was teaching in Sheboygan.
Mrs. Bird was a member of the National Education Association.
Surviving are her husband of Milwaukee, one stepson, William of Brown Deer, three stepdaughters, Mrs. Alvin (Betty) Klein of Sturdevant, Mrs. Bernice Kuntz of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Ron (Dorothy) Johnson of Wonewoc; 17 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Volla of Onalaska; and one brother, Milton Spors of Galesville.
The funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Smith Mortuary in Galesville. The Rev. M. C. Parkhurst pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Cliff Cemetery in Galesville.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from noon until the time of services.
