ALBANY
Arthur E. Hansen, 81 years of age, died at St. Peter's Hospital on the afternoon of Thursday, April 17, 2003 after a brief illness. A resident of St. Agnes Lane, Bishops Gate in Albany, he was born in Clinton, Iowa, February 22, 1922, son of Arthur W. and Mae Breen Hansen.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Doran Hansen; his stepdaughters, Mary Anne Hill Servizio of Raleigh, N.C. and Julie Hill of Loudonville, N.Y.; his brother, Thomas E. Hansen (Mary Theresa) of Clinton, Iowa and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Pringle of Albuquerque, N.M. He was the grandfather of four grandchildren, Joseph Daniel Hassett and John Paul Hassett of Loudonville and Kathryn Elizabeth Servizio and Stephen Louis Servizio of Raleigh, N.C.. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, the former Marguerite (Peg) O'Connell and their daughter, Patricia Hansen; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Art attended Iowa State University for two years and was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, class of 1946. He received a B.S. and master's degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. in 1949. Upon graduation from RPI, he was assigned as a US Army officer to work in conjunction with the General Electric Corporation on its missile program. Following his service in Korea and after a tour of duty in Japan, Art accepted a position with General Electric Corporation in Pittsfield, Mass.; later transferred to GE, Clifton Knolls. He was the founder and president of Ritta Professional Search, Inc. from its inception in 1972 until his death. The past president of the Capital District West Point Association, he was also an active member of the Board of Teresian House and a former member of the Board of Doane Stuart School and St. Anne's Institute. Until recently, Art was an avid skier, handball and racquetball player. During the summer months, he was a daily lap swimmer at Wolfert's Roost Country Club where he was a member. He was a parishioner of the Historic Church of St. Mary's on Capital Hill, Lodge Street, Albany.
Funeral services Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, thence to the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capital Hill, Albany at 10:30 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at the West Point Post Cemetery, Washington Road, West Point, N.Y.
