CLINTON

Howard Engstrom, 81, of the Clinton County Care Facility, Charlotte, died there Wednesday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Irenaeus Church with Rev. James Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pape Funeral Home with a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be David Breen, Thomas E. Hansen, John Hansen, Robert Lowther, Virgil Buntemeyer and Clarence "Pete" Smith.

Mr. Engstrom was born April 29, 1896, in DePue, Ill., the son of Andrew and Emma Mecum Engstrom. He married Theresa Breen, June 19, 1934, in Clinton. She died in 1969. He was a member of St. Irenaeus Church, and a retired welder.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Engstrom of Clinton.

Research notes for Howard

Son of Andrew Engstrom and Emma Mecum. At least, I think so...

The 1900 census record search...
I found this record, but it raised a lot of questions. Working backwards, I was able to track J. Howard and his widowed mother, Emma, from Iowa back to Kansas, back to Princeton and then the 1900 record. It didn't match well, but matched some and... well, take a look. Decide for yourself. I'm not ready to say it's correct, but it sure is interesting. EDIT - The more I look at this, the less I think it's correct.
