Edmund Vos, 83, long-time Antioch businessman and community activist, died after an short illness on Tuesday, July 31, at Victory Memorial Hospital.
Vos owned and operated the Antioch Lumber Co. along with his brother, Herbert, for 37 years, from 1935 to 1972 and also owned the Lake Villa Lumber Co. for 30 years.
He was a trustee of the Village Board of Antioch for 15 years and a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Antioch for 35 years, serving at its chairman before he retired.
He was the first president of the Antioch Lions Club and also a charter member. Vos was on the advisory board of the Benedictine Convent at Benet Lake as well as a member of St. Peters Church, a trustee on that board and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3800.
Vos was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie after relgious burial services at St. Peters Catholic Church in Antioch on Aug. 3.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; one daughter, Mrs. Luisa Andrae, Milwaukee; two grandsons, William and Kurt; two sisters, Marie Szydlowski, Fla. and Elizabeth Oldenberg, Burlington.
Vos was preceded in death by four brothers Alois, Herbert, Cletus and Roman, and a sister, Lucille Feiereisen. Friends desiring to do so may make contributions to the Antioch Lions Club or the American Cancer Society in his name.
