Herbert J. Rossmiller, 78, passed away Saturday, December 14, 1996, at Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.
He was born in Burlington on March 19, 1918, son of Henry and Katherine (nee: Richter) Rossmiller, and was a lifelong resident. He was a 1936 graduate of Burlington High School. On May 14, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons, he was united in marriage with Geraldine Held. Mr. Rossmiller served in the U.S. Army for five years in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and he also worked for Scheerer Construction in Burlington until retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Lifetime Member of VFW Post 2823 and Laborers Local #237.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; three daughters, Katherine (Richard) Bentley of Madison, Carol (Steven) VonAlven of Burlington, and Mary (Tony) WillemsVanDijk of Carpentersville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey and Leslie VonAlven and Lauren WillemsVanDijk; nephew, Thomas Rossmiller of Burlington; sisters-in-law, Theresa Rossmiller and Elida Rossmiller, both of Burlington; and brothers-in-law, Francis (Ann) Held of Kenosha and James (Barbara) Held of Lyons.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Cooney; and brothers, Loyal, Charles, Everett and Robert Rossmiller.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 16, 1996, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington with the Rev. Michael C. Petersen officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be on Tuesday, December 17, 1996, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 4 until 6:45 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington.
