Died - At her home in this city on Friday April 1, Mrs. Bernard Schemmer aged 57 years, 2 months and 24 days. Caroline Eva Hoffman was born at Lawrence, Washington county, Jan. 8, 1847. May 15, 1867 she was married at Burlington to Bernard Schemmer, and was the mother of ten children, five of whom survive her, two sons and three daughters. For a few years past she has been an invalid, and at Christmas time she had an attack of pneumonia which no doubt hastened her death. Mrs. Schemmer came to Hilbert in 1897 and two years later moved to this city. She was a good neighbor and a devoted Christian mother.
The funeral took place at ten o'clock Monday from St. Mary's church. Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Michael Schmitz of Kiel, assisted by Rev. Geo. A Clifford as deacon, Mr. Claud Hugo as sub-deacon and Rev. J. Kaster of New London as master of ceremonies. Rev. Fr. Schoell conducted the services at the cemetery.
