Louise R. Vos, 89, of Antioch, Illinois passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 5, 1993.
She was born December 10, 1903 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the later Christopher and Anna (Kirscherbauer) Roeschlein. She moved to Antioch as a young girl when her father purchased the Antioch Packing House, which he later sold. On June 5, 1929 she married Edmund F. Vos in Antioch. Ed was the owner and operator of the Antioch and Lake Villa Lumber and Coal Companies for many years. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1984. During her many years in Antioch, Louise was active in many civic endeavors. She was a founding member of the Antioch Mental Health Association and the Antioch Thrift Shop which supports Mentally Handicapped Children in the area. She helped originate and was chairman several times, of the Mental Health Cotillion which is also a fund raising affair. She was elected and served for over 40 years as a member of the board of directors of the Antioch Township Library and was president for most of those years. Through her efforts and vision the library grew from a popcorn wagon to the present day modern building on Main Street in Antioch. She was a member and past president of the Antioch Women's Club for over 50 years. She was also a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Antioch.
Survivors include her daughter, Luisa (Michael) Andrae, of Elm Grove, Wisconsin; 2 sisters, Eva Zeitz, of Richland, Wisconsin; and Elsa Schuster, of Barrington, Illinois; grandmother of William and his wife, Mary and Kurt and his fiancee Cynthia. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 brother, Harold Roeschlein and 2 sisters, Bertha Roeschlein and Dorothy Albright.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Friday, January 8, 1993 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Antioch with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Entombment will be private at Memorial Park, Skokie, Illinois from 3:00 to 8:00PM Thursday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Antioch Mental Health Association, P.O. Box 180, Antioch, Illinois 60002 or the Antioch Township Library.
