Robert J. Sobbe, 90 passed away Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
He was born April 26, 1916, in Burlington, to Alfred T. and Katherine E. (nee: Busch) Sobbe. He his early life in the Burlington area. On June 29, 1940, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Waterford, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth G. Kempken. Following marriage, they resided in Burlington, where she remained his wife for 48 years. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1988. Robert had spent post of his life in Burlington.
He attended St. Mary's Catholic School. Robert worked for Lavelle Rubber in Burlington for 24 years and also as a Foreman for a railroad company in Aurora, Ill. for nine years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington. Robert enjoyed gardening, fishing, telling jokes, and watching baseball and football on television. Robert also liked to cook, his specialty being hot chili pies.
Survivors include his daughters, Sally A. Kirk and Diane M. Bacon; grandchildren, Jeffrey
and Connie Bacon; and by his great-grandchildren, Aliric and Sunny Bacon. He was preceded in death; by his parents; his wife; sisters, Lucille Crowely and Rosella Schneider; and by a brother, Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Thielen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery in Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 1 until 3 p.m. Memorials to Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center have been suggested.
