Age 90. Passed away Thursday, December 27, 1979 at Veteran's Hospital in Wood, Wisconsin. Mr. McCourt was born July 9, 1889 in the Town of Dover, Wis., to James and Margaret (Whalen) McCourt. He spent his early life in the Town of Dover and was educated at the Sunnyside School and Burlington Business College. Mr. McCourt was united in marriage to Laura Busch on June 1, 1920 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington. After their marriage the resided in Burlington. Mr. McCourt was was employed with the Wisconsin Telephone Co. for 35 years until he retired. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Veteran of WWI-U.S. Army, member American Legion Ross Wilcox Post 79, charter member and past Commander.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and George Granger of Palatine, Ill. and Kathleen and Richard McCarthy of Gleason, Wis.; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jane McCourt, Jack and Marilyn McCourt, Arthur and Mary McCourt, all of Burlington; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. George (Katie) Yanny of Racine. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Burlington. The Rev. Gene Doda will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Rites. Friends and relatives may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the McCARTHY-KOENIG FUNERAL HOME, 101 E. State St., Burlington. The Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the Funeral Home.
