Margaret M. McConnell of Sun City, AZ died at age 95 on March 12, 2017 following a rapid decline in health. Born to Dan and Clara (Richter) Crowley in Canby, MN on February 14, 1922, she was the second of four children. She graduated Canby High School in 1939. Margaret married Army Air Corps Second Lieutenant James E. McConnell of Canby on January 6, 1943.
Active in the St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Canby, she also served as President of the New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Margaret and family moved to Granite Falls, MN in 1961 where she was successfully employed in the banking, real estate and insurance business. Upon her retirement she lived in St. Cloud, MN for several years before moving permanently to Mesa, AZ and eventually to Sun City. Margaret was an avid bridge player until the past few years when her failing eyesight allowed others to win occasionally.
Margaret is survived by sons James B. (Annette) and Gregory (Diane), daughters Maureen McCausland and Mary (Stephen) Muller, as well as 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Jean Crowley, three nieces and eight nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, her parents, brother Bernard and sister-in-law Mary Crowley, brother Donald Crowley, sister Helen and brother-in-law Durward Stringer, grandson Adam McConnell, son-in-law Gary McCausland and nephews Donald J. Crowley, and David Stringer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Glendale, AZ on Friday, March 24, at 11:00 am, with viewing one hour before. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Canby later this spring.
