George L. Schlitz, 87, 8735 380th Ave., Randall, died Saturday (Oct. 28, 1995) at Memorial Hospital, Burlington.
Born Jan. 9, 1908 in Kenosha, he was a son of the late Jacob and Mary (Mich) Schlitz. He attended schools in Paris, and was a 1926 graduate of Union Grove High School.
On June 24, 1930, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, New Munster, he married Dorothy Busch.
They owned and operated Wheatland Store for 41 years, retiring in 1974. He was also a part-time rural mail carrier for the Burlington post office.
They lived in Wheatland until 1974, when they moved to Randall.
He was active in politics for many years, serving as Wheatland town chairman. He was a member of the Kenosha County Board for 16 years, and served as chairman for two years. He also served on the Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, the Bong Base Commission, Kenosha County Parks Commission and the Kenosha County Jury Selection Committee.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Roberta Schlitz, Kenosha, and Mary Dietz, Grayslake, Ill.; three sons, LeRoy, Milwaukee, Roman, Houghton Lake, Mich., and Dave, Green Bay: 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Ambrose, Edward and William Schlitz, and two sisters, Josephine Herbst and Margaret Guilo.
McCarthy-Koenig Funeral Home, Burlington, is in charge of arrangements.
SCHLITZ - Funeral services for the late George L. Schlitz, 87, of Randell, WI will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 31st with the Reverend Thomas E. Biersack overseeing the services. Visitation will be held at the McCarty-Koenig Funeral Home from 3:00-6:45 PM on Tuesday. Interment will be held at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
