Funeral services for Clifford Herbert Diercks will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 21 in the Chapel of Memories at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be performed by the US Air Force. Rev. Michael Mattil will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Diercks, 87, passed away Monday, December 19 at the Sunrise of Hillcrest in Dallas.

Herb Diercks was born February 24, 1929 in Readlyn, Iowa to the late Clarence and Esther (Tribon) Diercks. He began a career with the Air Force in 1950 and served in Korea and Vietnam. He was also an accomplished fighter test pilot and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1959 for his participation in a calculated mid-air collision of two airplanes that resulted in the rescue of his plane. Mr. Diercks retired from the US Air Force in 1974 and enjoyed his family and farming during retirement.

Mr. Diercks will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Hammett of Pooler, Georgia; three daughters, Donna Pressley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Charlotte Smith and husband Ken of Dallas, and Carolyn Diercks of Sherman; one son, David Diercks of Denton; three stepchildren, Greg Hammett of Princeton, NJ, Linda Ory of Boston, MA, and Janice Dreier of New Haven, CT; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Nelson of Ocala, FL, Alex Nelson of Ft. Pierce, FL, Meghan Cerveny of Santa Rosa, California, Elizabeth Bucknor of Washington, DC, and Katherine, Clifford, and Justin Crouch, all of Sweeny, TX; and four great grandchildren, Magnolia and Oakley Cerveny, Charlotte Elizabeth Nelson, and Mark Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elizabeth (Connor) Diercks; and four siblings, Darlene Diercks, Marion Diercks, Evan Schmidt, and Beata Schmidt.
