Father Of Cleric's Wife Dies

 

Rev. John L. Wolff, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, and Mrs. Wolff left Thursday for Winner, S.D., where Father Wolff will officiate Saturday in Trinity Episcopal Church, Winner at the funeral of Mrs. Wolff's father, Clinton Henry Schemmer, 81, who died Monday night in California at the Long, Beach Veterans' Hospital.

Rev. Richard H. McGinnis, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Winner, the Schemmer family's home parish, will assist the Watervliet priest.

Mr. Schemmer was born in the Dakota Territory in 1889. He served in the U. S. Army during World War I, and subsequently became a state and federal game warden in South Dakota, transferring to the Secret Service and the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.

He married the late Minna Heese in 1920 and they had three sons and a daughter. Several years after Mrs. Schemmer's death he married Mellie Ringer and resided in San Bernardino, Calif., where he was active in the Masonic Order and veterans' organizations.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in San Bernardino. leaves his wife, two sons, Clinton and Benjamin of Kentucky and Virginia, as well as his daughter Mrs. Wolff of Watervliet, and 11 grandchildren.

At the time of his death, Mr. Schemmer was one of the few surviving cowboys of the pre-World War open ranch of the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana. Interment will be in the Winner cemetery.

C. H. Schemmer Rites at Winner
WINNER
Funeral services for C. H. (Hank) Schemmer, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Episcopal Church here with the Revs. Richard McGinnis and Jack Wolff officiating.
Burial will be in the Winner cemetery.
Mr. Schemmer, who had been game warden in Winner for 10 years around the 1920s, died Nov. 2 at the veterans hospital in San Bernardino, Calif.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Emma Lou) Wolff, New York; two sons, Benjamin, Virginia, and Clinton, Kentucky; a sister Mrs. Mary Olguin, San Bernardino, and two brothers, Jack, Winner, and Fred, Prescott Ariz.

Clinton H. Schemmer, 81, of 775 E. Base Line St., San Bernardino, died Tuesday. He was born in South Dakota and was a six-year resident of San Bernardino.
Schemmer was a retired 20-year foreman for the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his widow, Mellie M.; a daughter, Mrs. Emmy Lou Wolf; four sons, Clinton and Benny Schemmer, and Lambert and
Lindel Bequette; and 17 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Winner, South Dakota, with Patterson and Snively Mortuary, Long Beach, in charge of local arrangements.
