Marcell J. Kerkman, 88, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 23, 1999.
He was born in New Munster on July 8, 1911, to Henry and Clara (nee: Epping) Kerkman. He spent his early life in New Munster. He resided in Union Grove from 1949 until 1984 and in Kansasville from 1984 until the present. He married Coletta Rossmiller on February 7, 1934. She died March 12, 1983. He then married Marie Henningfield Fettes on March 31, 1984.
He farmed in Kenosha and Racine Counties from 1934 until 1949. He worked in construction for 12 years from 1949 until 1964 and then worked for Grove Gear from 1964 until 1982, retiring as Foreman. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Union Grove; St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dover; Harvest Club of Community State Bank in Union Grove; the Burlington, Dover, Union Grove, and Waterford Senior Citizens; and the Catholic Order or Foresters.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Kerkman of Kansasville; daughters, Jean (Robert) Lois of Union Grove; sons, Ronald (Sue) Kerkman of Union Grove and Richard (Carol) Kerkman of New Munster; daughter-in-law, Gayle Kerkman of Westerville, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis (Evelyn) Kerkman of New Munster, James (Arlene) Kerkman of Burlington, Stanley (Dorothy) Kerkman of New Munster; sister, Betty Siehoff of Burlington; sister-in-law, Rosemary Kerkman of Sylmar, Calif.; and brother-in-law, Harold (Armella) Rossmiller of New Munster. Also surviving are four step-sons, Nick (Rose) Fettes of Kansasville, Jerry (Carol) Fettes of Burlington, David (Rita) Fettes of Aurora, Colo., and Donald (Tammie) Fettes of Rice Lake; six step-daughters, Helen Reesman of Sturtevant. Mary Anne (Bill) Hoffman of Racine. Judy (Tom) Adam of Little Rock, Ark., Sally (Bill) Larson of Lake Geneva, Susan (Bob) Reuss of Racine, and Marlene O'Brien of Burlington; 30 step-grandchildren; 40 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Coletta; parents; one son, Roger Kerkman; one grandson, Neal Kerkman; one great-grandson, Chuckie Kerkman; one brother, Leon Kerkman; and one brother-in-law, Robert Siehoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church on Monday, September 27, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Charles Conley officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery on Monday following the service. Friends may call at Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. There will be a Prayer Vigil at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Memorials suggested to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church or Union Grove/Yorkville Rescue Squad.
