Francis H. Kerkman, 89, New Munster, died March 19, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Burlington.
He was born April 10, 1916, in Wheatland Township to the late Henry and Clara (Epping) Kerkman. He attended school at St. Alphonsus and had been a lifetime resident of New Munster.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Alaska, Okinawa and Korea.
He married Evelyn M. Hegeman April 12, 1947, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Burlington. Following marriage, they lived in New Munster. He was the president, owner and operator of Kerkman Construction, which he started in 1958. He also worked for 20 years at Scherrer Construction.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, New Munster. He served as a trustee for the church and was a choir member for more than 20 years. He served as treasurer for Wheatland Township for 27 years, Town Chairman for six years and was a member of the Catholic Foresters for 75 years. He also served on the Kenosha County Board of Review for five years.
Survivors include his wife, New Munster; daughters, Linda Kron, Bristol, Jane (Charles) Jones, Bayside; grandchildren, Jason Kron, Jody (Matthew) Peterson, Julie Kron, Sara (David) Sortino and Rachael Van Liere; great-grandchildren, Mia E. and Ava L. Peterson; sister, Betty Siehoff. Burlington; brothers, James (Arlene) Kerkman, Stanley (Dorothy) Kerkman, both Burlington; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Ehlen, Patricia Harlow, both Burlington, Marie Kerkman, Union Grove; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leon Kerkman and Marcell Kerkman; brother-in-law, Robert Siehoff, sisters-in-law, Rosemary Kerkman and Norma Koch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 23, at 11 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Biersack will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.
Memorials to St. Alphonsus Building Faith and Future Fund or to St. Alphonsus School are suggested.
