Mary Ellen Keegan, 84, of Rock Valley died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley, with Monsignor Ed Burian officiating. Visitation with family will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Mary Ellen was born on Sept. 6, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Clarence and Elvira (Schemmer) Keegan. She graduated Rock Valley Public High School and obtained her teaching degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She taught fifth grade at Le Mars, Iowa, Public School until retirement. Mary Ellen moved back to Rock Valley in 2008 and then to Whispering Heights on March 25, 2010.

Mary Ellen is survived by her siblings, Robert Keegan of Davenport, Iowa, Jane Richter of Rock Valley, Helen (Jim) Huffington of Madison, Mo., Doris (John) Kersbergen of Jackson, Mo., James Keegan of Arroyoseco, N.M., and Michael Keegen of Washington, DC.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elvira; and brother-in-law, Robert Richter.
