Leo A. Barbian, 90, of the Town of Wheatland, died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at his home.
Son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Althoff Barbian, he was born July 21, 1907, on the Peterson farm in Wheatland.
He attended New Munster Grade School and has lived his entire life in the Wheatland area.
On Aug. 18, 1943, he married Beatrice Emily Gandt at Lutheran Service Center in Waukegan, Ill. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1989.
Self-employed as a general contractor in the area for many years, he was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W Post 8375 in Silver Lake.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
From March 17, 1942, until Nov. 15, 1945, he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sargeant in the 720th Air Maintenance Squadron. He served 24 months in England. France and Belgium.
Surviving are five sons, Gerald, of Burlington, Lawrence, of Wheatland, Gary of Honey Lake, James, of Wheatland, and Joseph, of Burlington; six daugthers, Judith Newkirk, of Rochester, Jean Sokolowski, of Burlington, Joan Ehlen, of Burlington, Joy Blaha, of Kansasville, Jody Regner, of Lilly Lake, and Jill Lein, of Milwaukee; a brother, Harry, of Burlington; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Jack and Ray; three sisters, Dora, Florence and Helen in infancy.
The Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Racine, is in charge of arrangements.
BARBIAN—Funeral services for the late Leo A. Barbian, of Wheatland Township, who passed away August 15, 1997 will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 10:00 A.M. at the Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington. Interment will follow services in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Dover Township. Memorials to Care United Hospice.
