John Scholbrock

 

John Scholbrock, 73, of Festina, died Tuesday Nov. 18, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Postville after a long illness.

Mass of Christian Burial services were held Thursday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Festina with Monsignor Cletus Hawes officiating.

Mass servers were Sara Lensing, Logan Einck and Travis Busch.

Lector was Roger Scholbrock.

Offertory gifts were given by Kendra, Kerri and Victoria Timp.

Alan Sensor was organist and the Our Lady of Seven Dolors Choir also provided music.

Casketbearers were Gene Kipp, Phil French, Neil Lensing, Neal Holthaus, Rickey Kuennen and Kenny Bullerman.

Interment was in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery, Festina, and Schluter - Balik Funeral Home French Chapel, Calmar, handled arrangements.

John Williges Scholbrock was born March 17, 1930, the son of William and Regina (Kipp) Scholbrock in Festina.

He was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina.

He attended St. Mary's School in Festina to 8th grade and two years at South Winneshiek High School.

John Scholbrock served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55.

November 15, 1955, John Scholbrock was united in marriage to Dorothy Snyder at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

He was a semi truck driver for 22 years, driving for H&W Motor Express, Inland Molasses, F & W, Frana Beer Dist.

He then started working for Reilly Construction, where he was a cat and scraper operator for 30 years, retiring in 1996.

John Scholbrock was a great outdoor sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing in Iowa, Wyoming, Colorado and Wisconsin for many years.

He was a member of the Am. Legion in Spillville and Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Scholbrock, Festina; one daughter, JoAnn Timp and husband Kenneth of Calmar, three granddaughters; one brother: Ronald Scholbrock and wife Corina, Hazel Green, Wis.; three sisters: Mrs. Martha Bedward and husband Edward, Woodman, Wis.; Irma Rosauer and husband Charles, Blue River, Wis.; Mary Ellen Reed and husband Irwin, Prairie Du Chien, Wis.; one sister-in-law: Lenice Scholbrock, N. Hollywood, Calif., and one brother-in-law: Richard Hageman, Ossian.

John Scholbrock was preceded in death by his parents, William and Regina Scholbrock, a sister: Clara Mae Bauers Hageman, two brothers: Francis and Ralph Scholbrock, and brother-in-law: LaVern Bauers.

Dorothy Snyder Becomes Bride
SPILLVILLE

The marriage or Dorothy Snyder, daughter of Mr. and Joseph Snyder of Spillville and john Scholbrock, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Scholbrock of Festina, was performed by the Rev. John Chihak at St. Wenceslous church in Spillville.

Attendents were Alden Scholbrock, Marie Snyder, Melvin Jirak, Eleanore Neuzel, Alvin Panosh, Corine Krivacek. Jane Koudelka and Billie Bedworth.

A dinner was served to 75 guests at noon and supper to 275 guests at the new Parish Hall.

After a wedding trip, they will make their home in Dubuque.

The bridegroom was graduated from the Festina and Calmar High School and spent several years with the armed forces. The bride was graduated from the Calmar High School and was employed by the Interstate Power Company in Calmar.
