Funeral services for Betty Ferrie of Cresco were held at 10:30 a.m. June 7, at Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. The Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated with Msgr. L. H. Reicks, Rev. Donald Hawes, Very Rev. Roger R. Rethamel and Deacon David Schatz attending. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. Pall bearers were grandchildren: Josh and Cory Ferrie, Will and Jim Spalla, Paul Michael Loebach, Ben Erdman Adam Schatz. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Betty, 66, died Thrusday, June 3, 1999 at Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital in Cresco.
Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Ferrie was born Ju1y 21, 1932 in Howard County the daughter of Albert John and Louise (Scholbrock) Reicks. She attended rural grade school, St. Joseph's school and graduated from Cresco High School.
On October 4, 1950 she married Cecil Ferrie at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They made their home on a farm near Schley. They retired from farming in 1991 and moved into town.
Betty was a member of the St. Joseph's Altar and Rosary Society volunteered her time at the Cresco Care Center. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband: Cecil of Cresco; five sons, Gerald of Cresco, Duane of Tavares, FL., Kenneth of Hayworth, IL., Daniel of Jacksonville, FL., and Denis of Cresco; six daughters: Judy Erdman of Whittemore, Diane Loebach of Whittemore, Janis Spalla of Ridgeway, Karen Ferrie of Mason City, Shirley Schatz of Lime Springs, and Annette Koudelka of Nevada; 39 grandchildren; her mother, Louise Reicks of Elma; two brothers: Merlin Reicks of Cresco and Virgil Reieks of Harmony, MN; and three sisters: Shirley Martinek of Cresco, Darlene Vsetecka of Alta Vista and Luveme Loftus of Dodge Center, MN.
She was preceded in death by one son, James; two grandchildren; and her father, Albert.
