The Rev Mark Mueller, 67, chaplain of St. Elizabeth Home since 1972, died Monday evening in Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Ill., after an illness.
Born Oct 12, 1912, in Burlington, he was ordained June 3, 1939, in St, Ann's Catholic church, Milwaukee, by Archbishop Samuel Strich. Mueller became music director of the Madison Diocese when it was organized in 1946 and served there for 16 years. He also served pastorates in Lone Rock, Marshall, Mineral Point, Montello and Lodi before coming to Janesville.
Mueller taught religion to lower grades at St. William School and served as chaplain at the Rock County Health Care Center and to the Monsignor J.E. Hanz Assembly and Carroll Council No. 596, both Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are a brother, Paul Mueller of Park Rapids, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Scarvaci of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ramona Lake of Janesville, Mrs. Dorothy Mikleton of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Bonesho of Menomonee Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. William Catholic Church with burial following at 3 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Burlington.
Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Arrangements are handled by the Whitcomb-Hansen Funeral Home.
